ITC PUBLISHES ENRICHED KNOWLEDGE OF ISLAMIC TOURISM IN 2020 JOURNAL

Despite the challenging pandemic situation we all faced last year which extends till today, Islamic Tourism Centre has published the third volume of the Islamic Tourism Journal.

We are pleased that we could honour our annual initiative to enrich the knowledge base surrounding the concept of Islamic tourism and Muslim-friendly tourism and hospitality, or in short, MFTH.

As one of ITC’s major initiatives, the Islamic Tourism Journal is a platform to provide insight and understanding on the issues and challenges surrounding Islamic tourism and MFTH. Over the past three years, we have welcomed academicians and industry players to contribute their research publications, articles, and opinions related to Islamic tourism.

The journal aspires to serve several intentions — as a repository of ideas, a reference tool, a catalyst for further research ideas for the Islamic tourism and MFTH segment.

We hope that it will stimulate further research and development of ideas, and, ultimately, attract industry players or stakeholders to tap and invest into the research.

What’s special about the Islamic Tourism Journal 2020?

More content:

This edition of the Islamic Tourism Journal breaks several new records. Unlike previous editions, this is by far the one with the most number of research papers published, which is no mean feat given the surrounding circumstances. For ITC, this reflects the growing awareness for the huge economic potentials of the Muslim traveller market and we are only too happy to provide a platform to share this knowledge base.

More collaborations:

This edition is also presented in a slightly different size and format, which we feel better reflects the significance and weight of the topics covered. By working closely with Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia (National Library), we have established a standard of publication that is worthy of local and international regard in the area of Islamic tourism.

In the near future, we hope to collaborate more with Perpustakaan Negara Malaysia to create a repository of Islamic tourism resources at the national library that will be made available to the public.

Diverse topics:

This volume of Islamic Tourism Journal highlights pertinent issues to the development of the Islamic tourism and MFTH that includes service auditing tools, accommodation compliance, attraction site management, and understanding tourist expectations and behaviours.

Among the topics are:

  • The evaluation of mobile audit application for Muslim-friendly hospitality services in Malaysia
  • A review of the Muslim traveller market segment: Opportunities, challenges, and future direction
  • The success factors in Shariah compliant hotel operation implementation: The hoteliers’ perspective
  • An initial research on the potential of educational tourism at pondok institutions
  • Using importance-performance analysis in the measurement of Muslim visitors’ satisfaction with hotel facilities in Taiwan

The research is presented by academic teams from various Malaysia academic institutions. They were chosen from among hundreds who submitted their applications to us for the Islamic Tourism Research Grant 2018. Funding was provided to the successful applicants as grants for them to conduct their research. In addition, the journal also published submissions received through the call for papers during the Islamic Tourism Symposium 2019, another of ITC’s major programmes.

Special thanks go to the contributors of the journal for their trust, patience, and timely revisions. We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Editorial Board members. This journal would not have been possible without the great support from them.
