Description
Masjid Abidin, also known as Masjid Sultan Zainal Abidin, is one of the oldest mosques in Terengganu, located in the center of Kuala Terengganu. Originally constructed in 1793 during the reign of Sultan Zainal Abidin II, the mosque has undergone numerous renovations over the years, including major expansions in 1852, 1901, 1972, and 2006. Initially built using chengal timber in a traditional Terengganu house style, it was later rebuilt with red bricks, added domes, and a three-story tower. The mosque features a blend of Terengganu traditional, Islamic, and colonial architectural influences. With a capacity for 2,500 worshippers, it serves as a significant religious and cultural center in the region and is a popular tourist attraction.
