ISLAMIC TOURISM CENTRE CELEBRATES THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN ISLAMIC TOURISM

Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) will be hosting a forum entitled “Women in Islamic Tourism Economy”, to be held virtually this coming 8 July 2021

PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA, 1 JULY 2021:: The date 8 July 2021 is poised to be a special one for women as Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) will be conducting a virtual forum – “Women in Islamic Tourism Economy”, as a prelude to the Islamic Tourism Outlook Conference 2022.

Minister of Tourism, Arts & Culture Malaysia, YB Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri is set to present her keynote address at the forum, addressing the role and contribution of women to the tourism economy.

The forum will serve as an avenue for women to share their own unique experiences and stories in the tourism industry, along with the challenges they face as a traveller and industry practitioner. The event also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 5 which is to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Participants — both women and men — will be able to learn the importance of gender equality in tourism, and how to achieve it.

“Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) recognises the important role of women in our society alongside their many contributions to the advancement of the nation and tourism industry,” Director-General of ITC, Dato’ Dr. Mohmed Razip Haji Hasan reflected.

“In fact, in ITC alone, we have a significant proportion of female representation and I support such an environment at the workplace because it allows and promotes a healthy work environment that encourages a diverse set of talents, ideas and perspectives. This diversity contributes towards ITC’s vision and mission, to promote and develop the Islamic tourism (IT) and Muslim-friendly tourism and hospitality (MFTH) segments.”

True to its values, the forum, which is part of ITC’s research and training activities, will witness an all-woman panel of speakers, including Puan Sri Prof. Dr. Shariffa Sabrina, Founder & CEO, Tanah Aina Sdn. Bhd.; Hannah Pearson, Founding Partner, Pear Anderson; Jane Rai, ITC-certified Muslim-Friendly Tour Guide; and Sri Anindiati Nursastri, Editorial Board, Have Halal Will Travel (Singapore).

The forum will see topics such as sustainability, workplace safety, luxury tourism, and safety needs of women travellers being addressed, with the following interesting topics being presented:

Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) is an entity under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Malaysia tasked to develop the Islamic tourism (IT) segment for Malaysia.
