Masjid Sultan Idris Shah II was officially opened on 15 September 1978 by Sultan Idris Iskandar Shah II (1963–1984), the 54th Sultan, in conjunction with the celebration of his 54th birthday. It is situated on a plot of land measuring approximately 2.6 hectares in the heart of Ipoh city center. The building’s unique design, featuring multiple domes, gives the mosque a blend of traditional and modern appearances that reflect the times.
