Masjid Al-Ghufran was registered as Surau Balai Islam under supervision of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) on 6th April 1993. It was initially used for the local Islamic community meeting centre as well as the centre for religious classes besides acting as a prayer hall for congregation members around the Taman Tun Dr. Ismail. In line with the rapidly growing development, Surau Balai Islam was upgraded to mosque on 4th April 2000. The mosque is named Masjid Al-Ghufran in conjunction with the name given by Datuk Mohd Hashim B. Yahaya, the Federal Territory Mufti at that time which means ‘Forgiveness’.
